When it comes to your plumbing, you definitely want everything to be properly installed and maintained. Of course, not everyone has the experience with this matter that a plumber does. When you do hire a plumber, however, there are a few specific things that you will want them to check within your home, of course. Some things are obvious, and some others aren’t so clear.
Hopefully this checklist will allow you to think about what parts of your home that your plumber will need to see before they visit!
1. Toilets
Everyone knows that your plumber will be checking your toilets, or at least they hopefully will be. Cleaning your toilet beforehand will be much appreciated, naturally. They will check the finer parts of every commode in your home and take a look at things such as how it flushes and whether or not the systems are set up properly. No one wants to spend much time with a toilet, but you’ll be grateful if the plumber is as thorough as possible with yours.
2. Sinks
There will most likely be a few sinks throughout your home. You won’t realize how important these are to your lifestyle until you’re unable to use them, so it is better to let the plumber take good care of them.
If they offer any advice on how to properly care for your sinks, then you should listen closely, as there are many things that can actively damage your pipes when you use the sinks to dispose of them. They may also offer information about how to better protect your pipes from the stress of regular usage. As they say, you should never turn down advice from a professional, right?
3. Bathtub and Shower
One of the main features of your bathroom, your tub and shower are vital to personal hygiene. Naturally, your plumber will be looking at these and checking to make sure everything is working well. They will be on the lookout for leaks, damage, and potential drain and pipe hazards.
Once again, you should heed any advice or warnings doled out to you here. For the most part, however, shower maintenance is pretty straightforward, so this should be an easy section to check off of the plumber visit list.
4. Water Heater
Everyone who enjoys a warm bath loves their water heater. However, there are many things that need to be checked here. Shut off and pressure relief valves will be checked, as well as the electrical and gas valve connections. The heater would also be inspected for corrosion and temperature, tank capacity and the strength of the flue pipe and burner.
All of these factors can play into things such as the cost of your utilities and the overall safety of your home, so this is an important entry on the checklist!
5. Outdoor Fixtures
Your plumbing certainly does extend to your outdoor space, as well. Having the plumber check your outdoor hookups can save quite a bit of money in the event of a leak from any faucets found around the home. Your sprinkler system can also use the occasional checkup, as well. You may not pay much mind to these fixtures, but they still need tending to, as well!
